Since the end of 2024 the Danish audience can finally see our film “Grethe Meyer – The Queen of Danish Design” on demand.
Danish design and furniture art are known all over the world for their simplicity and functionality, but most female designers have been overlooked over time. This is the first film about the groundbreaking architect Grethe Meyer, whose story has never been told before.
Grethe Meyer was part of the new architects who, after the war, were concerned with social housing, the simple design philosophy and that Danish design should be for the people.
She combined humanistic thinking with a scientific and systematic approach. She analyzed her service and furniture design and insisted on creating designs that made the everyday important, functional and beautiful.
Through interviews and reconstructions, we gain a unique insight into the architect’s thoughts and working methods. Her personal story as a woman, artist, pioneer, mother and lover is an interesting and vulnerable story that puts her career and legacy in perspective.
